Bringing CleanTech to Flintbox
April 24, 2008 by Lindsay
May is CleanTech month at Flintbox!
We are pleased to announce a new sector specific push to bring more clean technology to Flintbox. For the month of May Flintbox is conducting an awareness campaign to encourage our members to post their clean technologies, engage industry members to look for CleanTech on the Flintbox site, and promote funding opportunities for related research.
What is CleanTech?
CleanTech is a term used to describe a range of products, services, and processes that harness renewable materials and energy sources to dramatically reduce the use of natural resources, and cut or eliminate emissions and wastes. In the last decade, interest in CleanTech has increased because of a decline in the relative cost of these technologies, an increase in incentive programs, and an emerging understanding of how human impact can affect quality of life.
CleanTech on Flintbox
We are aiming to have 50+ new CleanTech postings on Flintbox within the month. We will also spend May and June highlighting CleanTech in our Flintbox Technologies newsletter (received by more than 4,000 Flintbox industry members) and with related blog posts every week. Promoting more clean technology projects on Flintbox is only half of the equation, we are also conducting an outreach program to CleanTech industry associations and industry members looking for clean technology to bring them to Flintbox.
Another exciting related opportunity comes from Precarn Incorporated, a recent Flintbox member and advisory board participant. Precarn recently announced a $2.1 million funding boost to companies, universities and research institutions to promote intelligent systems research and development in Canada in the areas of environmental technologies (CleanTech) and manufacturing. Precarn has indicated an interest in working to increase the level of content and collaboration on Flintbox in CleanTech, and is in an excellent position to directly contribute to this through posting approved proposals for the above funding on Flintbox, in addition to subsequent funding opportunities. Precarn and Flintbox are also exploring additional options for funding and collaboration.
How can you get involved?
1) Post your Technologies - If you are a current member, post your clean technologies to Flintbox, and make sure to tag them with either “cleantech” or “clean technology”. We’re giving you a headstart, from now - April 24 - until May 31, post your clean technologies and we will feature them in our Flintbox Technologies newsletter, sent to more than 6,000 Flintbox users.
2) Tag Current Technologies - Go back through your Flintbox project list and label any related technologies with the tag “cleantech” or “clean technology”. This way your technologies will be listed alongside other clean technologies when industry members search for CleanTech on Flintbox.
3) Apply for Precarn Funding - As mentioned above, Flintbox member Precarn Incorporated recently posted an RFP on Flintbox with $2.1 million in funding (each grant can be worth up to $700,000) for proposals in clean tech and manufacturing. The deadline for concept documents is May 9th, so hurry up and apply! Learn more about this opportunity.
Throughout May, keep an eye on the Flintbox blog as a hub for new CleanTech information.
