IV Infant Safety Device
British Columbia Institute of Technology – March 18, 2008
The IV Infant Safety Vest fits snugly around the patient’s upper body. It gathers all medical lines and tubes from the upper body in a special sleeve incorporated into the vest, and channels these lines and tubes to the lower part of the body, where they emerge and are hooked up to various equipment. The disposable vest is designed to be effective at preventing entanglement, comfortable to wear, easy to clean, and use.

An Emergency Cricothyrotomy Device
University of Alberta – March 19, 2008
During a life threatening situation when ventilation to a trauma patient cannot be achieved via traditional techniques, a cricothyrotomy operation is considered. Currently available devices have difficulty in attaching and fixating to a patient while connected to a high pressure ventilation source and they often involve a multi-step deployment and attachment process. The new device designed by the University of Alberta engineers in collaboration with an anesthesiologist is a single step, self-anchoring emergency cricothyrotomy device that is designed to be intuitive for the end user.

Combination of Botanical Extracts for Cardiovascular Health
NRC-INH – March 7, 2008
Cardiovascular disease (CVD), including coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis, stroke, myocardial infarction, sudden death syndrome, is a leading cause of death. Elevated circulating cholesterol levels, in particular low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-cholesterol) levels and high level of circulating triglycerides have been well established as major risk factors for the development and progression of CVD. The present technology includes a combination of natural bioactive botanical extracts which results in a significant improvement in the blood lipid profile compared to individual components without the serious side effects associated with some pharmaceutical treatments.
